Montpelier, 2003

Roger Cranse

Big fires in small cities shift the balance of things. Nearly a century ago this building housed Montpelier's first movie theater.  In the summer of 2003 the building burned all afternoon and half the night. A week later, the gutted structure, its windows like dead eyes, was torn down.  In a few years no one will remember where the old silent films first flickered on the screen in Montpelier, Vermont.
